(More customer reviews)If you were pleased with the DVD releases of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, you should be equally pleased with the She-Ra Princess of Power DVD box sets. She-Ra Princess of Power Season One, Vol. 1 features the first thirty two episodes of the series. This is the first season set release for She-Ra, as the prior She-Ra release was a ten episode best of release.
It's clear from the packaging and beyond that Ink & Paint put as much effort into the She-Ra release as they did the He-Man series. The box design is similar and similar to the He-Man sets there is artwork on the spine of the box that will one day form a complete picture. The She-Ra DVD box set also includes two collectible 4X6 art cards and a plethora of bonus material.
The DVD set begins with the five part episode The Secret of the Sword. If you purchased The Best of She-Ra this past summer, these are the same episodes that were featured on that set. For those who don't recall, The Secret of the Sword is the animated movie that introduces the She-Ra character. Prince Adam makes a trip to Eternia and before all is said and done, Adora finds her power as She-Ra when she raises the sword aloft, she fights being brainwashed by the Horde, and much more. Basically, this is the movie that introduced the She-Ra character and tells her background. Adora is the twin sister that He-Man never knew about. Both have alter ego's, his is He-Man, hers is She-Ra.
The episode quality is really good. She-Ra is a show that appealed to both boys and girls. Although She-Ra was a female heroine, many of the shows episodes featured strong storylines by supporting characters. One character who enjoyed a lot of screen time was Bo. In the episode, "The Red Knight," Bo feels his manhood was challenged when the mysterious Red Knight beats him in a series of physical events. Feeling down, Bo leaves home and sets out for the Whispering Woods along. In another episode, two young boys tell Bo that their father's axe was stolen, when actually they lost it. Bo goes off to retrieve the axe and finds danger. She-Ra rescues him.
She-Ra has many friends including Castaspella, Madame Razz, Glimmer, and Cowell. Light Hope and Madame Razz are among the few who know share the secret that Adora is She-Ra.
Similar to the He-Man series, there is a moral or lesson at the end of the episode which is explained for viewers. She-Ra is an enjoyable series, and it's good to see the show on DVD after waiting for so long.

Mr. Belvedere: Seasons One & Two Review

(More customer reviews)Shout! has done another excellent job with their release of Mr Belvedere seasons one & two. The episodes are all the original network episodes, not syndicated cuts. The original opening credits have been restored, inculding the original pilot opening. No music is replaced. The video is for the most part fine. Occasionally there is a blurry spot but the show is over 20 years old. The audio sounds fine also, but occasionally the sound is slightly lower in some spots.
Now for the show itself. I watched this show when it originally aired and haven't seen it much in syndication since. My memory of the show is mostly from it's original network run. I loved the show then but wasn't mature enough to fully appreciate it's humor. After watching this set I enjoyed the show even more than I remembered. As an adult I can catch the adult jokes that I missed when I was a kid. This show is as entertaining to adults as it is to a younger audience. It holds up well. I watched episode after episode not wanting to come to the end and enjoying every second of it.
The set does have special features. There are interviews with the surviving cast members (minus Tracy Wells). They talk about how much fun they had on the show, including the pranks they played on each other. They talk of their fond memories and how they are still rmeembered to this day for their Mr Belvedere roles. Hopefully future sets will have an interview with Tracy Wells. The other special feature is the SNL Mr Belvedere fan club skit. That has nothing to do with the show, but it is hysterically funny. Tom Hanks is in it. The set also features two clips Family Guy in which Stewie sings the Mr Belvedere theme song. This is also mentioned in the interviews.
If anyone is on the fence about buying this set and worrying that they won't enjoy it as much as they remember, worry no more. The show is better than remembered. A few plots may be dated but as a whole the show stands up very well. You won't be disappointed.

Iron Man: Armored Adventures Complete Season 1 (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)When the show first premiered, I was a bit reluctant on trying it out, but after tuning in for only a few episodes, I was hooked on not only the well-crafted storyline, but also the interesting cast of characters that would help carry the show throughout its first season. Howard Stark is killed in the first episode, and his son Tony must carry on his father's goal of collecting and researching the five magical Makluan rings. During this journey, he must also come to terms with his father's death, and the legacy he left behind when Tony is set to inherit the company when he turns eighteen. Along for the ride are Tony's friends, who all contribute something to either the storyline itself or to the development of our hero; who grows over the course of the series. The villains who are introduced feel like actual fleshed out characters, from the unstable and misguided Living Laser to the enigmatic and tragic Madame Masque, rather than obstacles that the hero must fight for the sake of filling time. As the show progresses, Tony begins to realize hidden secrets about his father he didn't know about and things begin to tie back to the late Howard Stark and how everything starts coming together in the end.
The cel-shaded animation is a unique look for the show, and helps it stand out from not only the other CG properties currently airing on television, but also the traditional animated shows as well. The cinematography is creative and dynamic; not only making the fight scenes fun to watch, but everyday tasks look and animated beautifully. While certainly no match for the theatrical works of Pixar and Disney, this show certainly feels like an aesthetic standard that all CG properties on television should strive to achieve.
Overall, I found this show to be a lot more than I thought it would be; especially in a genre I lost interest in long ago. I recommend this show to any sci-fi fans, superhero fans, or maybe even a mecha anime fan if you got time to kill. Really, anyone simply looking for an animated show with a good, developed story and a memorable cast characters should check it out.

The relationship between the two leads works on alot of different levels. There's young guy(hothead)with older guy sensebilities. More like father and son in most cases.The action is good,and in the second season the show moves to Hawaii. But what stops me from giving this set 4 stars is the fact that Paramount split the season in half. Just like they did with Dynasty. Holding a series hostage and forcing you to buy the other half of the season is just downright greedy and mean on the studio's part. Don't they realize they would sell these series very well left intact? Especially when their competetors don't do it this way. In spite of Paramount's greed and lack of respect to their consumers,this is still a good series to have and own.

The final 32 episodes include some of the best written episodes and well loved episodes of the series. Fans of the series can look forward to owning the episodes "Not So Blind," "Teela's Triumph," and "The Greatest Show On Eternia" on DVD for the first time among other fantastic season two episodes.
Ink and Paint once again held back nothing when it came to a He-Man release. This final installment of episodes from the original series is of the highest quality. The set includes two collectible cards, one drawn by Dan Brereton and the other by Mike McKone. In addition to the cards, the set includes plentiful bonus features.
Believe it or not, they managed to produce more brand new documentaries. The first documentary is titled "The Stories of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe." It's an interesting documentary where various people involved with the show speak about the final 32 episodes. Much of the conversations are about the episodes "The Greatest Show in Eternia" and "Not So Blind." It is mentioned that the writers and people involved with the show knew before production started that despite good ratings this would be the last season due to decisions from financial backers. It was also mentioned by one writer that the show had pretty much run it's course. By the show being episodic in nature, everything had to be wrapped up by the end of each episode. If they could have had continuing storylines the show may have had potential to last longer.
He Man and the Masters of the Universe Season Two Volume 2 is a must purchase to complete your He-Man DVD collection.

Sometimes criticized for being too dark & violent for its time, this claim seems a little redundant in today's age of children's graphic animation. Particularly note-worthy is that each episode ended with one or two of the characters presenting a moral from that episode's tale - the consequences of thoughts & actions, which makes the series particularly relevant given the times we live in. The Best of Designing Women (1986) Review

Requests continue to pour in for full seasons of Designing Women to be released on DVD, and we wanted to keep you updated on the reasons for the delay and the current news regarding an upcoming release.
As many of you have probably seen, TV-on-DVD is currently flooding the marketplace, and as a result, the holders of the publishing rights to the music are asking a price that the DVD studio is simply unwilling to pay because it will drive up the cost of the release past the project's budget limits. Although diehard fans would pay higher prices, the loss of the casual fan will result in fewer sales which will not cover the ludicrous licensing increases. In the case of Designing Women, the situation is heightened by the fact that there were many popular songs used in the episodes that create additional licensing costs.
Sony has made it clear that it knows Designing Women is important to the fans, and they are continuing to push for a release of the series. This website has even been contacted to help with artwork, but until an agreement can be reached regarding the music licensing, no official release date will be announced.

Dungeons & Dragons - The Complete Animated Series (1983) Review

(More customer reviews)This was my #1 favorite cartoon series when I was eleven years old in 1983. I watched it religiously on TV back then, and when we got our first VCR, I recorded every re-run and watched those videotapes until I wore them out. Naturally, I was excited to hear this show was finally coming out on DVD. I bought the complete series box set released by BCI right away. All the episodes look great in terms of picture quality. Not to mention, the special features are surprisingly plentiful for an old, mostly-forgotten Saturday morning cartoon, and it really brought back some great memories.
Then I discovered a very disappointing problem. And I'm going to sound like a real nit-picker here - but I gotta state my case...
Any dedicated fan of this show is familiar with the episode "The Dragon's Graveyard" - generally considered to be the best episode of the entire series. That's the one where the kids decide to destroy Venger (the ultimate, evil bad guy) once and for all. They plan to do this by convincing Tiamat (the ultimate, evil 5-headed Dragon) to help them. It's a very cool story, because the good guys basically team up with one arch villain in order to settle their grudge match with another arch villain. As a kid in the 80's, I videotaped this series and "The Dragon's Graveyard" was one episode that I went back and watched repeatedly. So, I know that episode almost by heart. One of the things I always loved about that episode, and which I still remember clearly, was its powerful musical score. Especially during the scene where Venger throws fireballs at Uni, the baby Unicorn, nearly killing her, and the scene at the end, where the kids have their final, climactic battle with Venger, pin him against a rock, and lead hero Hank has to make the ultimate decision whether to kill Venger, or let him go. From watching and re-watching this particular episode to death on videotape, I remember very clearly that during these scenes the music had a fast, chaotic, rushing quality - a theme not heard frequently in other episodes - which racheted up the energy and took the drama way beyond typical Saturday morning cartoon fare.
And yet, while watching this same classic episode on the BCI-released Dungeons and Dragons DVD set, I noticed that this music had been completely replaced with slower, formulaic sections of music that can be regularly heard elsewhere in the series. This change in the music made the scenes described above considerably less effective, severely weakening the emotional impact of this episode.
Allright, now - yes - I realize how trite and ridiculous it must sound for a 30+ year old man to be nit picking the DVD quality of one single episode of a Saturday Morning cartoon show he loved when he was eleven. But the whole reason I bought this DVD set in the first place was to re-experience the innocent fun of those childhood memories, and instead I got a diluted version of that experience.
As a matter of fact, in the "Episode Trivia" section, it even mentions that another version of "The Dragon's Graveyard" episode exists, with a completely different musical score... and when I read that, all I could think was, "Yeah, no kidding, and you bozos put the weaker of the two versions on the DVD set. Thanks a lot!"
So... that's my one huge disappointment with the BCI set, and I'm guessing other fans who are total geeks for this show, will notice and be bothered by it, too.
NOW HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS... In 2009, Dungeons and Dragons was RE-RELEASED in a new DVD set, by a company called Mill Creek Entertainment. I had heard rumors that this new release RESTORED ALL of the ORIGINAL MUSIC used on the show, thus presenting every episode AS IT APPEARED, WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY SHOWN on TV in the early 1980's. At first I wasn't sure if I should believe the rumors... Then I saw that the Mill Creek release was selling for a surprisingly lower price than the BCI set... Low enough that I decided it was worth giving it another shot.
So, I ordered it, and let me tell you as a knowledgeable fan, that yes - the Mill Creek Entertainment release DOES include all the episodes with their original music. THIS is "The Dragon's Graveyard" as I remember and love it. Be advised, the Mill Creek release contains no Special Features, which is unfortunate, but I find myself not caring about that. The important thing is to have all the original episodes in their original form. And again, the price on the Mill Creek set is also a lot cheaper than the price on the BCI set, so it's hard to complain about the lack of "extras".
Bottom line - this is a great cartoon series. But if you want to experience this show in its original form - do yourself a favor: Snub the BCI set, and buy the Mill Creek Entertainment set. Take if from a long time fan of this show. I was deeply disappointed with the BCI set, and very, very happy with the Mill Creek set.

I have spent MANY, MANY YEARS waiting for "She-Ra" to come out on DVD, and it's FINALLY happening! HOORAY!
The release of the "She-Ra" DVD sets will be similar to that of the "He-Man" DVDs. The first "She-Ra" DVD set will consist of the movie "The Secret of the Sword" (which features He-Man and explains how Adam has a twin sister, how Adora became She-Ra, etc.) as well as five of the most popular episodes from the series, which were voted on by fans at He-Man.org. The five episodes that will be featured on the "Best of She-Ra" DVD are "The Price of Freedom," "The Sword in the Stone," "Horde Prime Takes a Holiday," "Of Shadows and Skulls," and (my personal favorite) "Sweet Bee's Home."
The quality of the "He-Man" DVD sets is incredible, and the "She-Ra" DVDs are expected to be just as good, if not better. In addition to the fully restored episodes, the "Best of She-Ra" DVD set will include a documentary, feature-length audio commentary, a music video, storyboard spreads, DVD-ROM scripts, "She-Ra" trivia, hidden Easter eggs, and two collectible comic book art cards. How cool is that?!

Words cannot express how excited I am about this DVD set! I grew up obsessed with She-Ra, and I am STILL obsessed with She-Ra! When I was a young girl I owned all the She-Ra action figures, the Crystal Castle...even that awful Crystal Falls playset that had a pump shaped like a seashell and squirted water all over everything! I had She-Ra books, She-Ra clothes, a She-Ra birthday cake...EVERYTHING! For the past 20 years I've had to settle for watching my treasured yet crappy VHS copies of the series that I always feared would fall apart at any moment. Now I'm finally going to have the entire series on DVD to enjoy in all its glory for the rest of my life! I couldn't be happier!
July 18 is already marked on my calendar...I am probably going to take the day off work so I can sit at home and watch "She-Ra" all day! I'll be able to recite the words to every episode, too, since I watched them all about a thousand times! "I am Adora, He-man's twin sister and defender of the Crystal Castle." AHHHH! I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

It is about Princess Adora (He-Man's twin sister) who lives in Etheria, a planet under the rule of the Evil Horde. The Evil Horde is tyrannical and rebel forces fight to overthrow the oppressive rulers. Princess Adora transforms into She-ra when she holds up her magical sword and as She-ra, she gains extra human strength. She-ra uses her powers to fight alongside the rebellion against the Horde and to protect the Etherians.
This collection of the entire series comes with 10 DVD's, an iron on She-Ra for t-shirts, and a sheet of stickers. There are no bonus or special features, but given the price I would say this collection is well worth it if you don't already own previously released She-ra DVD's. The image quality of these DVD's is pretty good considering the age of this series. I give this product 5 out 5 stars because even though it doesn't have special features, its all about the show and this is one awesome show!

(More customer reviews)There's no denying it: BCI Eclipse had some incredible animated titles that risked becoming forever lost to the archives of time once the company was forced to shut its doors this past year. Fortunately Mill Creek Entertainment, which by the way is distributed by BCI's parent company, Navarre, has acquired the rights to bring many of BCI's titles to the home market once more. Even more impressive still is that these sets will be packaged up and sold as complete box sets (rather than individual season releases).
In the case of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, this set represents the complete 2002-series release by Mike Young Corporation. Coming in at a total runtime of 960 minutes, this set spans 4 discs and contains the same clear-plastic slipcase and artwork-style as the previous BCI releases.
The extras contained are only slightly less thorough than the individual season releases and include:

In case you're just tuning in, no this isn't the Filmation version of the show so many of us recall with warm fuzzies from our youth. This is in fact the third (and most recent) animated iteration of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Produced for Cartoon Network by Mike Young
Productions, this version ran from 2002 until 2004 where it went for two full seasons (26 in the first season, 13 in the second). Along the way it managed to snag a very well deserved Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing (2004).
While there are few who could argue successfully that anything could replace the original Filmation series, Mike Young Productions managed to capture all of the elements that made the original so successful and to bring them up to modern standards of animation quality, sound work, and script writing. As a result the mythos had been brought to an entirely new generation of fans while simultaneously pleasing fans of the original.
Without giving too much away (I hate spoilers personally), I will say that the origins of Snake Mountain will begin to unfold in the second-half of the first season in addition to the complete origin of the Dark Hemisphere which imprisons Skeletor and his minions. New characters are plentiful as well and contain some slick back-story efforts, which make even the original Mattel toys a lot more desirable. Among the notables includes the stories of Two-Bad, Cobra Kahn, Cyclone, Roboto, Moss Man, Zodak, and Stinkor. Many of these characters were never fully fleshed out in the original show (if they appeared at all) and would have remained only in the imaginations of those who played with the toys if not for the spectacular effort here. We are also treated to a couple of new looks for He-Man himself including an amped up version of he and Skeletor in combat and his ever impressive winter gear which includes a flowing fur cape and a heavy battle ax.
The Snakemen element introduced in the first season develops into sheer brilliance in the second (and unfortunately final) season! Not to insinuate that the Masters didn't have their hands full as it was with Skeletor and his minions, this time around the threats to peace and justice come in from all angles in the form of the Skeletor and company, the Snake Men, and the Evil Horde! Yes, you read that correctly- She-Ra's arch nemesis, Hordak, who just so happens to have been Skeletor's mentor, shows up in Season 2 within Skeletor's origin story that finally ties all of the loose threads of Mattel's franchise together once and for all.
I often like to wonder what ground Mike Young's team would have covered had the show continued. Would they have expanded to include He-Man's sister (She-Ra's) story arc? Could have writer Larry DeTillio revisited some of his wise dragon influence? A shame that we'll probably never know.
All in all, the show simply continued to build upon the foundation first set by Filmation in the 1980s and thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment, can be yours in its entirety for the cost of each of the single season releases.

Phillips and future superstar-teen idol Raven Symone joining the cast. Also,we,who were fans of NBC's The Cosby Show since its 1984 premiere,welcome back Lisa Bonet as a regular. Denise Huxtable Kendall(Bonet) and her new husband navy Lieutenant Martin(Phillips) pay a visit to the Huxtable home with previously divorced Martin's 3-year-old daughter Olivia(RS) in tow. Of course Cliff(Bill Cosby) and Clair(Phylicia Rashad) were at first shockingly surprised but slowly adjusted to Denise's new roles as wife and stepmother. Ten-year-old Rudy(Keshia Knight Pulliam) is no longer cute,but Cliff just simply adores the cuteness of Olivia. Also we'll see Theo(Malcolm Jamal Warner) finally getting his own place,but not for long. He wasn't too far away from his parents' Brooklyn,New York home. He wound up moving back in with his parents and at one point this season,Clair had no desire to take Theo back(she and Cliff were upset with Theo at the time). In fact,at that time,he was living with his girlfriend Justine(the late Michelle Thomas) and her folks. Also,we see Denise,with Olivia,babysitting her sister Sondra's(Sabrina LeBeauf) twins Winnie and Nelson who themselves,wreck havoc in the Tibidaux household while Sondra and her husband Elvin(Geoffrey Owens) are out for the evening. Denise was just driven crazy by the obnoxious behavior of her niece and nephew. Vanessa(Tempest Bledsoe) and her friends go out-of-state(unbeknownst to Cliff and Clair) to attend a concert. But their tickets wound up being stolen and the girls had no transportation back to New York. Clair was so pissed that she grounded 16-year-old Vanessa. Elvin volunteers as an elf for a Christmas benefit. The other episodes are great. For the fifth and final time,TCS finished at #1 this season,this time tied with ABC's Roseanne,which was also produced by Tom Werner,Marcy Carsey and Caryn Sneider Mandabach. Bonet stayed on TCS as a regular for season 7,but she would be gone thereafter.

(More customer reviews)My younger brother and I watched this cartoon growing up in the 1980s. Because it wasn't a superblockbuster (GI JOE..etc) I am glad that it is being released on DVD.
Even though we never figured out why Iggy Nutmeg (the young boy in the "Heathcliff" segments) always was dressed up while Jennifer went casual and Grandma and Grandpa also looked (for their generation) informal, the series was great. Heathcliff was a cat who lived with the Nutmegs and, although generally well behaved, and wanting to impress his girlfriend Sonia (also a cat) got into trouble around the neighborhood.
He obviously wasn't content with being just a housecat because Heathclif was always cooking up some kind of 'get-rich-quick' scheme, but the family always forgave him and loved him exactly for who he was.
I loved the car which the Cadilac Cats had, it litterally changed into anything. Sure they lived in a junkyard and knew how to fend for themselves if need be, but the Cadilac Cats weren't hooligans. They were usually well-mannered cats and their leader Rif-Raf, honestly wanted nothing more than to be with his beloved Cleo, who worked at a music store. Plus (again to the perspective of a little kid) their makeshift house from an old airplane looked really cool.
I hope that whoever took the initiative to bring the series to DVD also included the theme song. Many years later, the lyrics and beat are still memorable.

Miami Vice - Season Two (1984) Review

(More customer reviews)The second season of vice is arguably the best and here are some of the reasons why: The Prodigal Son -- the premiere two hour episode may be the best vice, ironic that it takes place in New York, not Miami. Features Penn Gillette and Jean Simmons. Out Where the Buses Don't Run -- brought up by another reviewer and for good reason. Great music and atmosphere featuring that guy from Animal House and The Insider. Definately Miami-- featuring Ted Nugent as a psychopathic drug dealer and Arielle Dombasle as his psychopathic girlfriend that Crockett almost falls for. Great music again and great ending featuring "Cry" by Cream. Little Miss Dangerous -- great music and a great story about a homicidal hooker who Tubbs takes under his wing. Trust Fund Pirates is also a great one -- rich, trust fund kids who take to being pirates and robbing drug smugglers on the open seas out of boredom features Rick Belzer and Noogie "Nug man" Lamonte. Bushido some fans did not care for it but I loved it. It was directed by Edward James Olmos and gives some background on Castillo's spook days as he goes after an old friend who has become a double agent. Different music and a different feel. A really great opening scene in this one as Crockett and Tubbs use night vision and Zito hides under the sand with a snorkel! Sons and LOvers is an important episode in which Tubbs former lover, Angelica, comes back (remember from Return of Calderone) with some bad news for Tubbs. This was an important episode for the history of vice and the Calderone saga. Unfortunatley, this season featured a couple of the lamer episodes such as: The Fix -- Bill Russell as a judge with a gambling habit forces his son to fix a basketball game (but does have a powerful ending) and French Twist -- where a french cop chases a french bad guy and Crockett falls (sort of) for the cop. I did not care for these two episodes, although they weren't horrible and I'll enjoy watching them again. But other than those two, this is probably the best season of vice by far!
