(More customer reviews)I saw this show when it was originally shown on The Animal Planet. I believe it was their first drama series, but not positive. The show isnt actually the same as the book Call of the Wild, but is an old fashioned western type series like some of us oldies used to watch as kids. Miles is a 15 year old boy with his mother and stepfather, John Thornton. They moved to the Yukon where John Thornton and his wife run their own store. John was a hero back in the days before he married and still is. The story centers on Miles trying to become his own person outside of the shadow of his stepfather and of his adventures with his dog and other characters from the town and strangers as they come in. Some of the shows were humorous and some serious....you slowly got to learn more about each of the characters throughout the series and all of the scenery is breathtaking. There are a lot of good scenes with John Thornton and his wife and she was one of the first career women. In one scene a man tells John and his wife that when he comes back he'll take him up on that homecooked meal he promised and Mrs. Thornton quickly remarked that as soon as John learns to cook then he can offer the homecooked meal. It's too bad it ended after only 13 episodes, but what a treat to have it all on dvd.

Family Ties - The Fourth Season Review

Season 4 of Family Ties was the Year of Alex and Ellen, and if you were a child of the '80s like me, you still know all the words to "At This Moment" by Billy Vera and the Beaters because you heard it on Family Ties in the 2-parter where Alex and Ellen met and fell in love. (The song has just GOT to be in the episodes! It's a vital part of the story!) Season 4 was also the year Mallory brought Nick home to meet her family for the first time, and the reactions of the Keatons to Nick were comedy gold. And all of the Keatons, plus Skippy, being kept awake by Alex's insomnia (and a faulty burglar alarm), with Elyse finally providing a cure for her firstborn's sleeplessness (one of my favorite ever scenes between Meredith Baxter and Michael J. Fox), is one of the best episodes of all time. This season is a must-have for every true Family Ties fan's collection!

(More customer reviews)The robot repairman episode is the new favorite in our house. Great music, and definitely a fun movie for my kids (1 and 3). My son (3) asks to watch it every morning. The other two episodes on this disc are not that great, which is the reason for my 4-star review. Both episodes only have Tyrone, Pablo and Uniqua (missing Austin and Tasha) and they seem to fall flat. Overall though, definitely a good buy for Backyardigans fans!
**Robot Repairman: Austin is a robot repairman in Mega City. Together with Uniqua, Tasha and Tyrone, he must figure out why all the robots are suddenly malfunctioning. Set to disco music!
** Catch that Train: Uniqua is a train conductor moving the Czar to his winter home. She and Pablo must catch the runaway train before it's too late.
** 50 Foot Worman: Pablo and Uniqua are scientists at a university. Uniqua is studying wormen, and Pablo is working on a growth formula. When the two mix, they team up with Tyrone to shrink the worman.

Lost in Space - Season 3, Vol. 1 (1965) Review

(More customer reviews)Season 3 of Lost in Space had a very ambitious start. You could feel the excitement of the new direction the show tried early in this season. From the exciting and grand new theme to actually going into space more often, Season 3 did start out very well. However, the lazy writing to "comedic villain" of the week started to creep up by the middle of this volume.
Season 3, Volume 1 features some of the best episodes of the third season and a few approach the best or at least the most ambitious of the entire series. We start out with the action packed "Condemned of Space" where we see the Robinson's lift off, dodge a comet, loose the Robot in Space and come across a frozen prison. We move on to "A Visit to a Hostile Planet" where we feature one of the best of the series (though logic is out the window) where our crew returns to Earth of the Past. We take a trip to a comical yet original premise in "Kidnapped in Space" and then the traditional "crash" in Hunter's moon. And even when stuck on a planet for a while, they to attempt new fresh ideas, most notably some bonding between Don and Smith in "Space Primevals." And bad creature effects aside, "Space Creature" gave us one of the deepest Lost in Space episodes to date.
Near the end of this volume, it would seem that the writers milked all they could out of the return to action and adventure and had to settle back to farcical fantasy and the results not very good. We get three episodes in a row that pretty much sign the death certificate of the entire series. "A Day at the Zoo" puts the Robinsons in a traveling Zoo. "Two Weeks in Space" features the Jupiter 2 as a resort for fugitive aliens, complete with a cash register and badminton equipment. And "Castles in Space", while starting strong, falls on its face with a silver Mexican, Don making a mannequin in the likeness of a Mexican woman, and the robot getting drunk. If it weren't for the excellent "The Anti-Matter Man", this volume would have gone out on a horrible note.
Season 3, Volume 1 is presented in broadcast order I believe. This is a welcome change because prior video releases did not have them in this order and we often had illogical order to them being crashed and then back in space. The DVD transfers are good but again, a remaster would have been welcomed.
Season 3 rates way above season 2 in terms of quality but because of hitting rock bottom with some truly dreadful episodes, the show alas was doomed. Volume 1 of Season 3 features the strongest of the entire season.

When The Man w/the Yellow Hat wants to help George write out his Christmas list, George presents him his list in the form of a drawing of shapes (circles, squares,triangles...). The Man w/the Yellow Hat labors over the list and can't figure out what George wants for Christmas. The Man w/the Yellow Hat sees how well the Doorman and Hundley work together and how Chef Pisghetti understands Gnocchi. The Man w/the Yellow Hat feels he doesn't really understand George, isn't a good monkey parent, and that maybe George would be better off with someone else. The Man w/the Yellow Hat dreams of the Ghost of Time Gone Sideways. He sees what it would be like if George was with the Doorman, Professor Wiseman, or Chef Pisghetti, instead of him. During the dream The Man w/the Yellow Hat figures out what George's list means and what he wants for Christmas.
During this time, George is trying to decide on the perfect gift to make for The Man w/the Yellow Hat. George's creations end in messes and disappointment until he figures out exactly what to give The Man w/the Yellow Hat.

VeggieTales - Where's God When I'm S-scared (1993) Review

(More customer reviews)VeggieTales launched 10 years ago with this video, which includes two shorter segments. The first, "Tales from the Crisper," teaches Jr. Asparagus that he has nothing to fear because "God is Bigger then the Boogie Man." The second retells the story of Daniel in the Lion's Den with songs feature Larry as the hero and Archibald Asparagus as King Darius. (Mr. Nezzer hadn't been created yet.) In between is the very first silly song, "The Water Buffalo Song."
Watching it again this weekend, I was struck by two things. First, how much fun this video is. With Jr. they perfectly captured a little kid and his logic and created some truly funny moments with talk about the slime monster. Although the funniest moment belongs to Daniels chatter as he's being carried to the lion's den. The second is how far they and the technology have come. By today's standards, the animation is bad. Their recent projects with bigger budgets are much better looking. However, that doesn't affect the fun at all. I almost guarantee that you'll have one song or another stuck in your head after watching this.
If there's a better way to teach kids Bible truths then this series, I sure don't know what it is. They're truly entertaining for the entire family. Heck, I buy them and I don't even have kids.

The 3-disc set includes all 36 episodes from the first season presented in standard black and white. The episodes look great in black and white rather than that awful color that was inserted into them while on TBS. The DVD also includes the lost pilot episode with three different cast members alongside Gilligan, the Skipper, and the Howells. Also on the DVD are tropical tidbits about certain episodes, profiles on how the cast was selected, and a tropical island survival guide.
The excellent cast really made this show what it was. Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale JR as the Skipper, Jim Backus as Thurston Howell III, Natalie Schaefer as Lovie Howell, Tina Louise as Ginger, Russell Johnson as the Professor, and Dawn Wells as Mary Ann made up one of the best ensemble casts in television history. Fans of this much loved show should run out and buy Gilligan's Island The Complete First Season. You will not be disappointed!

EPISODE SYNOPSES Pilot: Ginger, Maryann and the Professor are different people. Mary-Ann's name is Bunny and her character is more like the current Ginger. Ginger is more like Mary-Ann but still called Ginger. TheProfessor is very much a ladies man. Since the episode never aired,the show was drastically altered, characters were replaced and sowas the now, unforgettable theme song. Episode 1: "Two on a Raft" - The castaways find themselves marooned on the island. Gilliganand the Skipper set sail on a home-made raft in an attempt to findhelp. After sailing for days and battling obstacles such as sharksand Gilligan's unending hunger, they land back on Gilligan's islandwithout realizing it.Episode 2: "Home Sweet Hut" - A hurricane is coming, so theCastaways must quickly build one large community hut in which toweather the storm. However, they soon get on each-others nerves, sothey later decide to branch out and build individual huts.Episode 3: "Voodoo Something to Me" - The Skipper fears that theisland is full of 'voodoo' when he thinks that Gilligan has beenturned into a monkey. Episode 4: "Goodnight Sweet Skipper" - The castaways hear on theradio that a plane is going to be flying over their island, but theywill be unable to contact them because their transmitter is broken.Episode 5: "Wrongway Feldman" - When Gilligan finds an old airplanehidden in the jungle, the Castaways discover a long-forgottenaviator living on the island. Episode 25: "The Matchmaker" - Mrs. Howell decides to engineer aromance between Gilligan and Mary Ann. Episode 26: "Music Hath Charm" - Mrs. Howell decides to form asymphony orchestra, to make up for the lack of culture on theisland. Gilligan's drum beats, as they drift across the water, holdspecial meaning to angry natives on a nearby island. Episode 27: "New Neighbor Sam" - The Castaways overhear the voicesof gangsters discussing buried treasure and threatening their lives.The voices turn out to belong to a parrot, who then leads thecastaways to the "treasure." Episode 28: "They're Off and Running" - Mr. Howell wins all of theSkipper's possessions betting on turtle races. Even when he feelsbad and switches the turtles so that Skipper will finally win, hestill wins! Episode 29: "Three to Get Ready" - The Skipper insists a stone foundby Gilligan will grant the finder three wishes before sundown. Theprofessor, of course, insists it is just superstition.Episode 30: "Forget Me Not" -The Professor tries to cure theSkipper's amnesia by hypnotizing him and taking him through time.Episode 31: "Diogenes, Won't You Please Go Home" - The Castawaysdiscover that Gilligan has been keeping a secret diary. When theyread it, they all seem to disagree with how certain events unfoldedand tell their side of the story. The castaways are hopeful that Dubov will give them histransmitter, but soon discover he does not wish to go back tocivilization.Episode 35: "My Fair Gilligan" - After Gilligan saves Mrs. Howell'slife, Mr. Howell decides to make him his son. He immediately putsGilligan through basic training to be a millionaire's socialite son(dream sequence), changing the way he walks, talks and dresses.However, Gilligan and the rest of the castaways miss the "oldGilligan." Episode 36: "A Nose By Any Other Name" - A fall from a coconut treegives Gilligan an inflated nose and a deflated ego. When Gilligandecides he wants the Professor to perform plastic surgery on hisnose, the Professor pretends to perform the surgery, and instead,relies on the recuperation time behind the bandages to allow theswelling to go down. When the bandages are finally removed, Gilligandecides he is happy with his old nose!

Wildfire - Season One (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)I don't get why the over review of this set gives the show just 1 star because it isn't the show he wanted it to be!
Anyway, "Wildfire" was a show originally developed for the WB network that eventually became the first in a growing line of succesfull original drama series for the ABC Family Channel. The show follows a girl, Kris, and focuses mainly on her transition from Juvenile Hall to the ranch life of Texas. In order for her parole to be granted she is given a job as a ranch hand in an extremely posh and secretive community that raises and races horses.
It is here that she, along with wildfire - a horse from her days in juvie - finally is able to shed her past and live like a normal teenager just trying to survive. But that isn't made easy with all the drama surrounding her and her new soragate family.
I will admit that the series starts out jumpy, but it really comes into its own halfway through the season and never lets up. I missed the final three episodes on television and I cannot wait to revist this series and get caught up. Amazon doesn't mention it but the set is going to include: Deleted Scenes, a Couple Commentaries, and Several Featurettes.

First off, Vivian is played by Daphne Maxwell-Reid (Tim Reid's Wife) and also Little Nicky Banks comes into the picture, at least it gives this show the best last 3 seasons of the show. 74. Where There's a Will, There's a Way (Part 1 of 2)
College-bound Will and Carlton settle into their new L.A. party pad, to which Carlton brings the woman of his dreams -- Jackie. Unfortunately, it is also soon overrun with partygoers.
75. Where There's a Will, There's a Way (Part 2 of 2)
Will brings Carlton shocking news that Jackie is an old friend of his from Philly; the two guys get evicted from their apartment; and Hilary asks for a "special" proposal from Trevor -- and gets it.
76. All Guts, No Glory
Registration day finds Will signing up for no-brainer classes, plus one that might truly challenge him -- a philosophy course he takes to meet a girl.
77. Father of the Year
Stuck with caring for Nicky for the day, Will soon discovers the benefits of baby-sitting: he's suddenly a big man on campus with the women so long as he poses as a single dad.

Will's long-lost father, Lou, breezes into town and promises Will the moon, which angers Phil and Vivian, who give him the cold shoulder for walking out on Will and Vy. When Will was an infant, his father went to get a pack of cigarettes and never came back. Years later he became a trucker, but Will was going to college by then. When his father abandons him a second time, Will accepts the fact that Uncle Phil is the closest thing to a father that he has ever had.98. For Sale By Owner
A stranger makes a generous offer for the Banks estate, which prompts the family to reminisce about their good times there.
99. The Philadelphia Story
Will returns to the City of Brotherly Love and discovers he's the [...] of old friends' jokes, prompting him to go into training to settle an old score and clear his reputation as a chicken.
I can't wait for seasons 5 and 6 to come out within the next year or so. It's real cool now!
