(More customer reviews)Normally I hate it when people (including myself) write reviews for DVDs that haven't even come out yet. But I'm so excited for the 2nd season of Arrested Development to come out on DVD that I'm going to write one anyway! (Don't worry, I'll come back and update the review once I actually get the DVD.)
This is, in my opinion, the funniest show on television. My favorite thing about this show is how it is a "comedy for smart people." If you like dumb and "easy" humor, then there is probably still some stuff in here that you'll enjoy... BUT if you like clever/witty humor, you'll LOVE this show. The more you watch it, the more jokes you'll understand and the more funny the jokes will be. There are even jokes foreshadowing other jokes several episodes down the road (e.g. Buster's "I never thought I'd miss a hand so much" when looking at his old hand chair in "Amigos"). There's no way you could ever catch everything on your first viewing, and that's why the DVDs are so great.
While the 1st season is incredible, I'd have to say that the 2nd season might be even better. The jokes just keep building (so it's even funnier if you've seen the 1st season). The running storyline of Tobias as an "on call" understudy of the blue man group is great... even at the end of the season (well after that story has ended) you can still see blue smudges on everything in the house. The whole thing about Buster losing his hand is hilarious and contributes greatly to my favorite episode of the season, "Motherboy XXX" (which has one of the funniest endings I've ever seen). I could go on and on: the Veals, Gene Parmesan, Mrs. Featherbottom, GOB's wife, Maeby's job, "Scandalmakers"... it just never stops!
FOX cut back this season's original order of 22 episodes to only 18 (allegedly so they could introduce "American Dad"... but there are even jokes about the cut, like when the Bluth Company's order for homes is cut from 22 to 18). While it's disappointing to think we could have had four more episodes, I'm more than willing to trade those four episodes for a whole 3rd season. This is the funniest show on TV!

Boston Legal - Season 2 (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)Boston Legal is such an intelligent, brilliant and funny show. This second season is equally as good as the first, and I still watch it each and every week. The witty banter and the bizzare cases and relationships are hilarious. William Shatner and James Spader steal the show but all of the cast is really good. They all have the perfect timing and delivery that makes for a great comedy/drama.
My favourite episodes in this season are ... There's Fire (where Denny is caught in a closet with another woman on his wedding day) and the one with Tom Selleck who wants Shirley back in his life even though he's now getting married. There are also other great guest stars on here like Robert Wagner, Jeri Ryan, Leslie Jordan, Betty White, Michael J Fox, Ed Begley Jr, Parker Posey, Freddie Prinze Jr, Adam Arkin and Shelley Berman to name a few.
How they keep this show getting better all the time is beyond me. It's not just your average courtroom drama, but a fantastic show that will keep you glued to the screen everytime it's on. I really love it and hope you have as much fun with it as I do.

To celebrate her thirtieth birthday, Maggie spends the weekend camping alone to reflect on her life and cleanse her soul. Marilyn asks Chris to help her learn how to drive. Maurice rambles endlessly into a recorder about his past in an attempt to write his memoirs.
4.2 Midnight Sun
Joel is "light loony" and, with his enormous amount of excess energy, coaches the Cicely Quarks in their annual basketball game against Sleetmute. An old friend (Gillis Toomy) drops in to visit Ruth-Anne and outfits the town from his collection of fashionable ensembles.
4.3 Nothing's Perfect

The Fugitive: Season One, Vol. 1 (1963) Review

(More customer reviews)I'll never understand why every terrible movie and television show that was ever made was released on DVD ages ago and perhaps the finest television series of the 60's - or perhaps of any decade - is only now being released.
I just don't get it, but better late than never.
I am so pleased that this series is finally being released. I was a young boy in the 60's and I recall getting hooked on this show early in the 1st season. Great story lines - great performances (both by David Janssen, Barry Morse and the guest stars) - excellent writing and wonderful suspense / drama at times.
I can't think of a single negative about this show. The first season was filmed entirely in black and white and this only contributed to the sometimes "dark" and serious tone to the series. The narration at the beginning and end of the series by William Conrad was a pleasure to listen to. And David J. was the perfect actor to play the part. He could be both strong and vulnerable at the same time and his character - Dr. Richard Kimble - was so honorable and admirable it was no wonder that so many people helped him to elude capture for so many years.
You look at the sorry state of television today - where networks continue to churn out the most stupid reality shows possible- and you wonder when it began to unravel. In fact, it's only getting worse. Is it any wonder that so many people are buying DVDs of classic tv shows and watching them over "America's Next Top Model" or whatever.
I'm getting ahead of myself here, but I sincerely hope the powers-that-be follow up season 1 with the release of season 2 and subsequent seasons as quickly as possible. I want to have the entire collection of this great show in my library as quickly as possible - before the idiots who make the decisions decide that maybe it would make more sense to issue some brainless tv show - instead of this classic..!
But for now - thanks for finally getting your act together - whatever caused you to get a grip on reality and decide to release it, I just hope you can stay lucid and smart enough for alittle while longer to release the other seasons.

Celebrating his unexpected win, Earl is hit by a car, loses the ticket, and ends up in the hospital where he decides that he needs to balance out all the bad things he has done in his life. Finding the ticket and getting his money, Earl is convinced that karma has put him on this mission, much to the dismay of his brother Randy (Ethan Suplee), his ex-wife Joy(Jaime Pressley), and her new boyfriend Darnell the Crab Man(Eddie Steeples).
Since the airing of the pilot, both critics and audiences have been blown away by My Name is Earl. Besides a extremely talented cast whose comedic chops are perfectly timed, Earl has a solid cast of writers who create 22-minutes of laugh out loud comedy every week. Earl's guest stars in Season 1 rival only Scrubs, including Giovanni Ribisi, Johnny Galecki, Beau Bridges, Jon Favreau, Adam Goldberg, Christine Taylor, and Juliette Lewis.
Season 1 of My Name is Earl offered 24 solid episodes, including the pilot, and received the Director's Guild Award and the People's Choice Award for Best New Comedy, and was nominated for a half dozen other awards including 2 Golden Globes. This would be a 5-star show but it remains to be seen if the writers and producers can keep this level of energy up for several more seasons. As First Seasons go though, this is one of the best to come along since Scrubs.
The DVD set just released and it is jam packed with extras include 8 episode commentaries, a 15-minute mini-episode that incorporates the Family Guy into the show, deleted scenes from 6 episodes, some outtake reels that highlight the improvisational nature of Jason Lee, Jamie Pressly, and Ethan Supplee, and a Behind The Scenes look at the show. This is a solid and fun show, and it deserves a place in your collection. Highly Recommended.

While several episodes were only available on DVD in recent years through a pricey enrollment club, this represents the first time the ENTIRE first season of this landmark TV Western icon has been available in ANY format!
Starring Robert Conrad as Agent James T. West, along with the late and deeply lamented, Ross Martin, who portrayed his partner, Artemis Gordon, master of disguise and invention, the series ran on CBS from 1965-1969.
The series focused on their adventures as the country's first secret service agents, working for President Ulysses S. Grant, to thwart all manner of evil doers who directed their villainy at individuals and/or the nation. Mixing espionage, thrilling adventure, western cliff-hanger suspense and high-tech, sci-fi gadgetry the likes of which had never been seen on network TV, the series propelled the actors into international stardom. On the series, West and Gordon traveled in style on a personal train equipped with the amazing gear they used each week to save the day and/or world (the interior of which was used in the epic Gunsmoke episode, "Death Train.")
(Note: Martin, who suffered a heart attack during the first season, was replaced during the last season by the network because they were concerned about his health, which probably resulted in the series' demise. Actor Charles Aidman joined the cast, portraying Jeremy Pike, also a master of disguise, who was supposedly West's former partner. Two later made-for-TV movies, The Wild, Wild West Revisited in 1979, and More Wild, Wild West in 1980, reunited Conrad and Martin.)
The series (set in 1868 primarily in or around San Francisco) continues to be a source of fevered worldwide fan devotion. Like The Avengers, which also aired in the 1960s, The Wild, Wild West was made into a simply awful "blockbuster" big-screen feature film in the 1990s, which failed in every way to capture the quality, fun, adventure, action and entertainment of the original, beloved series.
The brilliant actor, the late Michael Dunn, guest starred in 10 episodes during the show's run (several considered the best in the series) as the diabolical nemesis of West and Gordon, Dr. Miguelito Loveless, who suffered from delusions of grandeur. (At 3 feet-10-inches tall, Dunn suffered from chondrodystroyphy, which eventually took his life. He was also a child prodigy with an IQ of 178 and became a concert pianist at age 15, and was a remarkable singer.)
Dr. Loveless was ably assisted by the devoted Voltaire, portrayed by Richard Kiel (best known for his portrayal of the evil "Jaws" in the James Bond films, "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Moonraker"), who is a towering 7-feet-two-inches tall! The juxtaposition of the two actors increased the pathos that Dunn used in his unforgettable performances expressing the doctor's jealousy and hatred of West for his "perfect body" and society in general for its embrace of physical beauty and harsh rejection of those who do not meet that superficial, rigid criteria.
Throughout the series, Conrad insisted on performing all of his own stunts (which were minion) and viewed himself as a tough-guy, developing a devoted stunt crew "family." Dunn, who was no slouch himself, also performed his stunts at the urging of Conrad, despite network fears that both actors would be seriously injured (Conrad did suffer numerous injuries and Dunn injured an ankle.)
As of this writing, the studio had not announced what, if any, special features would be included in the boxed set. The first season (the only one in black and white) had 28 episodes: The Night of the Inferno; The Night of the Deadly Bed; The Night the Wizard Shook the Earth (introducing Dr. Loveless); The Night of Sudden Death; Night of the Casual Killer (the only episode in the entire series to omit "The" before "Night of" in a title); The Night of a Thousand Eyes; The Night of the Glowing Corpse; The Night of the Dancing Death; The Night of the Double-Edged Knife; The Night that Terror Stalked the Town (also featuring Dr. Loveless); The Night of the Red-Eyed Madmen; The Night of the Human Trigger; The Night of the Torture Chamber; The Night of the Howling Light; The Night of the Fatal Trap; The Night of the Steel Assassin; The Night the Dragon Screamed; The Night of the Grand Emir; The Night of the Flaming Ghost; The Night of the Whirring Death (third Dr. Loveless episode); The Night of the Puppeteer; The Night of the Bars of Hell; The Night of the Two-Legged Buffalo; The Night of the Druid's Blood; The Night of the Freebooters; The Night of the Burning Diamond; The Night of the Murderous Spring (Dr. Loveless' final appearance in Season 1); and The Night of the Sudden Plague.

ER: The Complete First Season (1994) Review

(More customer reviews)Finally, Season One has arrived on DVD! If you are familiar with ER you know all the adjectives used to describe this unique show; Gripping, Stunning, Amazing, etc.
So what does this DVD offer? Well, as the title states, the complete first season. It also includes the 1 1/2 hour pilot. In addition there are behind the scenes, bloopers, the making of, commentaries on three episodes, and more.
As a real fan of ER I have waited for this DVD for some time now. The shows are wonderful to revisit. I am reminded of 'old friends' who have long since left the ER.
I gave up on TV a number of years ago and do not have cable or watch any TV. A family member records the current ER episodes for me and I devour them each time. It is simply outstanding entertainment. The actors, story, music, editing, camera work and sooo much more combine to bring out the very best in entertainment.
The only downside to this DVD comes with the packaging. The DVDs are double sided so you cannot set the DVD down without possibly scratching it. Also, because there is no label on each DVD you need to read the very fine print near the center hole to identify which DVD is # 1, 2, 3, or 4. And the print is even smaller to figure out which side is A/B.
My 5 star rating is based on the quality of the episodes. The extras included with the DVD deserve 4 stars, and the packaging would be only 1 star.

(More customer reviews)With talents like Joseph Stephano and Leslie Stephens as producers, some of the best Sci-Fi Writers and a lot of talented 60's actors and even actors that went on to great fame like Robert Culp, David McCallum, Sally Kellerman, Robert Duvall and Martin Landau, this was one of the first quality Sci-Fi series.
Twilight Zone was out there, but at times it was not really pure Sci-Fi, often more mysterious and horror, Thriller hosted by Boris Karloff (PLEASE PUT THESE OUT on DVD) were pure horror and the long running Alfred Hitchcock Present was straight mystery, so SCI-FI fans were captivated from the opening line with that mysterious voice telling you your telly has been taken over for the next 60 minutes. The acting was top notch, the writing literate and thought provoking, and you will even see many of the episodes were later cannibalised later to make movies, such as SOLDIER with Michael Anshara, repackaged in the 80's as The Terminator. To think you get 32 original episodes on 4 double-sided discs is just amazing.
There are a few puppies in the series...In the second year of the series Stephano played a less controlling interest. He believed in thoughty mind twisting Sci-Fi, while Stevens wanted the monster of the week, so some monsters did get a little Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea-ish (Think they even shared a couple with monster doing double time!). But all in this in one super buy is a must for all those Baby Boomers that would once more would like their telly taken over.
Warning to those who have not seen the series, these are vintage, high quality Black & White episodes. I think it adds to the spookiness as they could film in lower light, creating those sinister shadows.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Fourth Season (1997) Review

For Season Four the task was to prove that "BtVS" could survive losing Angel, Cordelia, and Wesley, who were spun off into their own film noir vampire detective series. The surprising success of their effort is displayed in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete Fourth Season," a season that is more impressive with each viewing.
When last we left our heroes most of them had just survived graduating from high school. Now Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Willow (Alyson Hannigan), and Oz (Seth Green) are off to UC-Sunnydale while Xander (Nicholas Brendon) tries to survive in the real world and Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) twiddles his thumbs in his apartment. Instead of the "high school is hell" idea, the underlying symbolism of the season is now the brave new world of college. Buffy has moved out of the house to live in the college dorm (surprising), but with somebody other than Willow (more surprising), and is trying to move beyond Angel (sad, but not surprising). After a dalliance with Parker Abrams (Adam Kaufman), the personification of that horrible "transition" person your friends always warned you about after your first big breakup, Buffy hooks up with clean-cut Iowa farm boy Riley Finn (Marc Blucas), charming psychology graduate assistant by day, Initiative super-soldier by night.
By now we are familiar with the double-story arc structure of a "BtVS" season. For Season Four the first half story arc has to do with the mystery of the Initiative, while the second half is the confrontation with Adam. More importantly, there are several monumental character changes inspired by the desire to keep a couple of actors and the decision of another cast member to leave. Wanting to keep James Marsters around, the idea of putting that bloody chip in Spike's head, neutering the vampire when it comes to putting the bite on human beings, was a masterstroke (and, dare I say, surprising). Suddenly, Spike is a de facto Scooby. Meanwhile, with Emma Caulfield sticking around as Anya, she becomes the show's comic relief in place of her boyfriend Xander. Then, when Seth Green left the show to concentrate on films, what we thought was an offhanded comment in "Doppelgangland" suddenly comes to fruition for Willow when she meets Wicca wannabee Tara (Amber Benson). All of these changes end up having much more significant impacts on the show than the addition of Riley Finn as Buffy's new love interest.
Season Four begins with a lot of interpersonal issues, from trouble with dorm mates ("Living Conditions") to getting dumped ("The Harsh Light of Day," "Wild at Heart"), before getting caught up in the mystery of all those soldier types running around the campus in the dark ("The Initiative"). Buffy and Riley finally discover the truth about each other in the landmark episode "Hush," the only episode ever to earn Joss Whedon a well deserved Emmy nomination for Best Writing of a Drama (insert outrage over snubs of "The Body" and "Once More With Feeling" here, please). The second half of the season finds Riley learning to work with Buffy ("Doomed") and Buffy enjoying working with the Initiative ("A New Man") before Professor Maggie Walsh (Lindsay Crouse) tries to kill her ("The I in Team") and her stitched together uber-demon Adam (George Hetzberg) breaks free and sets up the final confrontation ("Primeval").
Ultimately, the strength of a season is judged by the episodes that are essentially off the main story arcs. For Season Four this means a Halloween episode with one of the best punch lines ever ("Fear, Itself"), the great Buffy and Faith mind-switch ("This Year's Girl" and "Who Are You?"), the discovery that the coolest and most important in the world is Jonathan Levenson ("Superstar"), and the hilarious insanity of Willow's wish list ("Something Blue"). Of course on that last episode once again the joke is on us as the alternative reality give us a preview of what is to come down the road. One of the most unique aspects of this season was that the climatic battle with the year's big bad happens in the penultimate episode and the season finale, "Restless," serves as an actual epilogue as Buffy and friends encounter the First Slayer (Sharon Ferguson), and sets the stage for significant develops to come.
The fact that Season Two ended with the greatest episode ever of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in "Becoming, Part II," when Buffy has to kill Angel to save the world, obscures the fact that on balance Season Three and Season Four were both stronger seasons overall. The operatic finales might not reach the same heights, but the lows are higher and the on average score is higher. The worst episode of Season Four is probably the season premier, "The Freshman," which suffers because like all first episodes in a season of "BtVS" the goal is to have Buffy rededicate herself to being the Slayer so that new viewers can feel like they understand the gig. If anything, Season Four reaffirms that the strength of this show is character development and not just vampire slaying.
Final Comment: It is nice to see that the extras for Season Four contain twice as many commentary tracks as we have been privy to for each of the previous three collections. In a perfect world it would be great if all of the episodes had commentary, provided by shifting tag-team combinations of writers and actors, in the tradition of the very early episodes of "Farscape" on DVD, but I have long had the feeling that the cast of "BtVS" is rather intimidated by the encyclopedic knowledge of the show enjoyed by its fan base.

Prue (Shannen Doherty) starts out still grief stricken over Andy's death, which puts the sisters in a very dangerous situation. She starts a relationship with her new boss, guest starring Lochlyn Munro (Freddy vs. Jason), but eventually ends the relationship when she comes to the realization that working in the "museum/appraisal" industry just isn't where her heart lies - thus enter Photography Prue. Her powers also grow in the episode "Ms Hellfire" into a cloning-type of power called "Astral Projection". The episode also shows the return of Barbas, the demon of fear, with the handsome Antonio Sabato Jr. guest starring. (He also guest stars in the episode "Give Me a Sign).
Piper (Holly Marie Combs) starts the season still wanting to open her own club. Eventually successful, her club, P3, features many popular artists including Dishwalla ("The Devils Music), the Cranberries ("She a Man Baby, a Man!"), Janice Robinson ("Animal Pragmatism"), the Goo Goo Dolls ("Ex Libris"), and Paula Cole ("Apocalypse Not"). Piper also falls for their new neighbor Dan Gordon (Greg Vaughan), but to keep things interesting, Leo (Brian Kraus) comes back into her life, still in love. When Piper becomes sick from Mother Nature in one of the best episodes of the season ("Awakened"), Leo misuses his healing power and is stripped of his whitelighter duties and made mortal, thus allowing Piper to have a "legal" relationship with him. But she is torn between him and Dan and the love triangle makes for an excellent storyline.
Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) goes back to college and just spends the season playing the youngest sister. The season has two time traveling episode that Phoebe plays major role in. In "Morality Bites", the sisters are sent 10 years into the future where one sister is a successful business woman, one is divorced with a daughter, and the other is on death row for murder. This episode is a personal favorite. In "Pardon my Past", we learn of the past lives of the girls, with Phoebe being evil (This is just a hint of what is to come in Season 4). Although she has a few love interests in some episodes (such as the hilarious episode "Chick Flick"), she doesn't have a lasting relationship (In preparation of Seasons 3 and 4 where we meet the infamous Cole).
Overall, this season is great. With only a few dull episodes ("The Devil's Music", "She's a Man, Baby, a Man!", and "That Old Black Magic") that are nonetheless entertaining, this season will welcome old and new fans with open arms. The acting of the girls improves even more, including Holly Marie Combs (check out "Awakened", "Astral Monkeys", and "Morality Bites")Dorian Gregory also returns as Darryl, who eventually learns of the sister's secret, and remains their connection to the law.
Season 2 is just a great introduction to the phenomenal Seasons 3 and 4...brace yourselves, folks, it's gonna get good!

(More customer reviews)In 2009, Bill Lawrence (co-creator of "Scrubs" and "Spin City") and Kevin Biegel thought about a TV series that revolved around single people in their 40's getting back on the dating scene and for Lawrence, said he was also inspired by his wife, actress Christa Miller (who also stars on the show "Cougar town", "Scrubs" and "The Drew Carry Show") and her life when she walked out of the shower, went in front of the mirror and flashed it. By that action alone plus their ideas of featuring a 40-year-old trying to get back into the dating scene, the idea of "Cougar Town" was born.
"Cougar Town" is a sexual comedy sitcom which revolves around Jules Cobb (played by Courteney Cox, "Friends", "Dirt", "Scrubs"), a 40-year-old divorcee who is a single mother raising her teenage son Travis (played by Dan Byrd, "Aliens in America", "Heroes") and also is successfully business owner who owns her own estate business. Having been divorced for eight months, Jules now wants to have fun and enjoy life like a single woman would. No strings tied, no relationships, just to have fun and most of all, having some sexual freedom in her life.
But of course, she's learning quickly that entering in the dating game (and not wanting a relationship) at age 40 is not too easy, especially if your eyes are in younger men.
Fortunately for Jules, she has a support system which includes her next door neighbor and best friend Ellie Torres (played by Christa Miller). Ellie inspires Jules because she is married and has managed to make her marriage work. Ellis is also a voice of reason and a friend she grew up with and since both Jules and Ellie tend to do everything together. Ellie is married to Andy (played by Ian Gomez, "Rita Rocks"), who is a man that loves to eat, tries to be a good husband but also has lazy tendencies as well. Together both Ellie and Andy are new parents and raising a baby and do all they can to keep their marriage happy and functioning.
When Jules is not hanging out with Ellie, she hangs out with her young, promiscuous (and not-so-smart) assistant named Laurie (played by Busy Phillips, "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", "Made of Honor"). Laurie is all about hooking up with men, having fun and despite not being a great assistant, Jules enjoys her company because she is part of the young single scene and hopes her assistant can take her to areas where she can meet younger men.
And because Jules has friendships with both Ellie and Laurie and both woman are quite the opposite from each other, these ladies don't really get along but for Jules sake, they manage to hang out together for their good friend.
Meanwhile, Jules is still close with her ex-husband Bobby (played by Brian Van Holt, "John from Cincinnati", "Threshold") who loves to party, drink beer, play golf, and is a custodian at his son's school and lives on a boat parked in a driveway. Despite Bobby knowing why the reason he got divorced with his wife is because of his issues with infidelity, he does care for his ex-wife and wants to have some sort of relationship with Travis.
Another man in Jules life is a man named Grayson Ellis (played by Josh Hopkins, "Private Practice"), a 40-something bar owner, who lives across the street. Grayson irks Jules because young women constantly come out of his home (and Jules is jealous that its easier for older men to get back into the dating game compared to herself, an older woman). But both because of their initial rivalry, Jules wants to be friends with Grayson and encourage him to join the neighborhood activities within the neighbors living in the cul-de-sac.
Throughout the season, we get to see each of these people who are close to Jules, end up being close friends and are there for each other in times of need.
"Cougar Town - The Complete First Season" features a total of 24 episodes presented on three DVD's.
VIDEO:
"Cougar Town - The Complete First Season" is presented in Widescreen (1:78:1) - Enhance for 16×9 Televisions. For a DVD series, picture quality is good and with a lot of the series shot outdoors and inside with a lot of lighting, the series looks pretty good on DVD. There are compression artifacts as expected from a DVD release but it's not that bad. So far, "Cougar Town - The Complete Series" is a good looking TV series on DVD and fans of the show should be happy with its picture quality on DVD.
It's important to note that Amazon has a listing for a "Cougar Town" Blu-ray release and if that is the case, I can imagine that this series would look fantastic on Blu, especially since the series has a lot of outdoor scenes. Definitely a series that has the potential to show off quite a bit of detail and vibrant colors on HD.
AUDIO & SUBTITLES:
"Cougar Town - The Complete First Season" is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The series is primarily dialogue driven with occasional music and is primarily front and center channel driven. I didn't notice the surround channels being utilized all that much, but for the most part, dialogue is clear and understandable.
Subtitles are presented in English SDH, French and Spanish.

JUDGMENT CALL:
When I first started watching "Cougar Town", I admit that I thought the first initial episodes turned me off. To watch these cougars fawning over high school boys and watching Jules, a 40-year-old woman going to nightclubs where younger people frolic and then hanging out with students and playing beer pong was something I just had no interest in. But I stuck with the series and sure enough, things got better.
As the first few episodes did focus on the "cougar" aspect of older women going after young men, the series began to be more about relationships and friendships. The series literally became much more fun to watch and easily a series that will appeal to both men and women. I enjoyed how the series started to include more storylines that revolve around the people closer to her. For example, her son Travis is constantly being embarrassed by Jules and his father Bobby and friends. But he's a graduating teen who wants to lose his virginity and it's interesting to see how he goes about that and also tries to take advice from his father, his neighbor Andy and Laurie.
Meanwhile, the Torres family are hilarious to watch. Ellie and Andy have a fun relationship, especially how they plan their daily lives with each other. May it be taking care of a child to planning their sexual nights. But of course, as Ellie is a big support for Jules, Andy on the other hand is like the comedic character as he tries to be the confident man who knows about women in front of Travis and also becomes the follower when it comes to him hanging out with Bobby and Grayson.
Meanwhile Grayson is the guy who loves to be with younger women but suddenly finds himself interested in Jules and Bobby, the ex-husband who is loud and obnoxious but also starting to noticed the woman he lost because of his infidelity problem.
And then you have Laurie, your stereotypical blonde floozy who is just a promiscuous woman who just doesn't care. She just loves to have fun and there's no stopping her.
Also, this is role that suits Courteney Cox quite well. As she was an actress that absolutely shined on "Friends", it's great to see her in a sitcom that is just fun to watch and also to see her character evolve. It's quite hilarious and you just have to love the hand "guns" and her "bing" chest bumps. And as I enjoyed watching Courteney Cox, it was also great to see Christa Miller (who I absolutely enjoyed on "The Drew Carey Show" and "Scrubs") in the supportive role as Jules best friend. Both Cox and Miller have great chemistry (as best friends) and to see both sitcom veterans together on one show is pretty awesome!
Another element that I enjoyed with "Cougar Town" is the guest appearances. It was cool to see Sheryl Crow play the wine client Sara who starts dating Grayson and also to see "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow playing the mean doctor and dating Jules ex-husband Bobby. And now, hopefully we will see an appearance by another "Friends" alum on the show... Jennifer Aniston anyone? Or even one of the male "Friends" characters.
Overall, "Cougar Town" is a series with a colorful cast and I found myself enjoying the episodes more when...Read more›

Stargate Atlantis - The Complete Third Season (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)For my money, the third season of Stargate Atlantis is the best thus far. All of the seasons have been somewhat hit-and-miss, in terms of episode quality, but I think season three brings a wealth of much-needed character development. We learn more about the mysterious Sheppard in "Phantoms" and the taciturn Ronon Dex in "Sateda," while the episodes "McKay and Mrs. Miller" and "The Tao of Rodney" provide new dimensions to the brilliant and blustery Rodney McKay. McKay's character arc alone -- looking from his original guest appearances years ago on SG-1 to the newest Atlantis offerings -- is staggering, and David Hewlett greatly deserves the praise he's received for his performance. Outside of something like Firefly, I think it's rare to see a show in this genre explore so much of the characters' backstories, and it's gratifying to see it finally happening for SGA.
Teyla is certainly underutilized, and I hope that this season will bring new depths to her character. From what I've heard, there is definitely the opportunity for that to happen.

Family Guy, Vol. 4 (Season 4 Part 2) (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)First off, what is with the selection screens? I have to adjust my television just to read the options! Anyway, several episodes here are up to the high standards of previous Family Guy seasons. My favorites are "PTV," "The Fat Guy Strangler," "Father, Son, and the Holy Fonz," and "You May Now Kiss..." (Jasper is funny). Others, however, I found to be mediocre or just plain bad ("Patriot Games"). There are not as many episodes I want to see over and over as there are on volumes 1-3, but this season is still good enough for 4 stars. There are a lot of extras on disc 3, too. 44 deleted scenes and you can select all and have them play one after the other (some of these jokes are better than the ones that got left in the shows). The featurettes are very interesting where many of the directors and artists are interviewed on what all is entailed in putting a show together. Also, these episodes are uncensored (there is an F-Bomb dropped or two) but there is a censored option (isn't it usually the other way around?). Anyway, here are the episodes:
Disc 1
"PTV": A wardrobe malfunction involving David Hyde Pierce at the Emmys causes the FCC to censor all tv--"The `bleep' Van `bleep' Show, Starring `bleep' Van `bleep.' So Peter starts his own network featuring such highbrow programs as "The Side-Boob Hour" and "Dogs Humping."
"Brian Goes Back to College": The New Yorker magazine is interested in Brian as a contributor but requires a college degree. Brian had dropped out of Brown University. It's strange to think of an animated dog in this way, but I'd always thought Brian was so cool and together. Hearing him lament about how he never finishes anything put a new spin on his character.
"The Courtship of Stewie's Father": Chris works for that disgusting old man who likes young boys while Stewie and Peter bond over something they both enjoy immensely: terrorizing Lois. This episode almost makes one sympathize with that old pediaphile (well, almost).
"The Fat Guy Strangler": My favorite of this volume. Lois finds out she has a brother who went crazy after seeing their mother having relations with Jackie Gleason (hence his hatred of fat men). Meanwhile, Peter makes the shocking discovery that he is fat and starts the NAAFP.
"The Father, the Son and the Holy Fonz": Peter's father baptizes Stewie with tainted holy water and he has to be quarantined in a plastic bubble. Meanwhile, Peter starts the church of the Fonz--"Please rise.....Now sit on it."
Disc 2:
"Brian Sings and Swings": A near-death experience causes Brian to feel he must live for the moment so he hooks up with Frank Sinatra Jr. as part of the New Rat Pack. A funnier side story is Meg pretending to be a lesbian to be accepted into a club.
"Patriot Games": This has to be the most stupidest Family Guy ever. Peter meets Tom Brady and joins the New England Patriots (along side Diet Pepsi machine?) but is transferred to a London team for showboating. Meanwhile, Brian fails to pay a debt and Stewie gives him a beat-down mob-style.
"I Take Thee Quagmire": Quagmire gets married and soon realizes it was a mistake. Meanwhile, Lois is weaning Stewie but he finds he is addicted to breast milk.
"Sibling Rivalry": Peter donates to a sperm bank and Stewie's rival baby is born (remember "Emission Impossible"?). Meanwhile, Peter stops having relations with Lois after his vasectomy and Lois gets fat. I like that part. Another highlight: Chris's shoebox diarrhea of the evolution of man.
"Deep Throats": After getting what he deemed to be an excessively high parking ticket, Brian wants to find dirt on Mayor West and sees him dating his young intern: Meg.
Disc 3
"Peterotica": First off, that Quagmire stuff in the beginning is very annoying. Anyway, Peter writes erotic novels and uses Lois's father's name as the publishing company. When someone gets into a car accident listening to Peter's book on tape (read by Betty White), Mr. Pewterschmidt loses everything and must move in with the Griffins.
"You May Now Kiss the...Uh...Guy Who Receives": (You get it? Hahaha). Brian's gay cousin Jasper plans on marrying his partner but Brian first must fight Mayor Wests' ban on gay marriage.
"Petergeist": Peter digs in the yard and finds an Indian skull and weird things start to happen. Part of the plot is similar to that Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors where a 3D Homer is stuck in another dimension.
"The Griffin Family History": The Griffins are stuck in a panic room while their house is being robbed so Peter tells them stories of his ancestors Nate the slave, Willie "Black-Eyed" Griffin the silent comedy star, and Peter H*tler who was the brother of...yeah.
