Oz: The Complete Seasons 1-6 (1997) Review

Oz: The Complete Seasons 1-6 (1997)

About the show:
Wow. From the first episode you feel as if you are hooked in, although I dont want to dive too much into the show itself (just skim it) you find that this show, apart from its hard hitting grit and honesty (maybe it is? I dont know, ive never been to prison) dealing with drugs, ethnic grouping, racist attacks, homosexuality, violence and spiritual guidance, this show has something for everyone to walk away with and contemplate as it does dictate a lot of what our soceity is like, even if we have to look at a test subject that is criminal and locked up.
Few warnings though:
Not for the faint hearted: If you are conservative in nature, I would not suggest watching this show, as some of what happens is REALLY harsh (especially as seasons go on)
Not for children: I personally dont believe that people who are under the age of 17 should be watching this show, as it contains graphic sexual scenes and nudity.
Dont watch this if you are a devote prison break fan: This show just makes it look like a joke! Although only the first season of the show was in prison, the realism (if they even tried for that) just doesnt compare to how hard up prisoners really have it, which i feel OZ may convey much better. Tea bag? More like hand bag! Compared to characters like Shillinger and Ada Beisi he is TAME.On the continual arguments with pricing and dvd quality:
Despite claims in these previous reviews, I have yet to find a problem with this six season set.
Although, I have to admit, the menu's are seemingly primative and quite long in loading up (panning through computer graphics etc which gets annoying) but the quality is still great.
I also dont see how this boxset is seen as expensive. At the time fo this review (28/7/07) the entire show in this offer costs $208, If you look to buy all seasons seperatly, it will cost you an extra $8 dollars, which you could just spend on getting a better delivery service.
When I bought this show (about 4 months ago) I payed about $170. So at this point in time I do find it a bit pricey and would suggest watching it since prices go up and down. I personally feel though even at 208 USD, its still worth it.

It was starting to get a little scary there after two years of waiting for Season 5...Just give us a hint that Season 6 will see the light of day, and possibly, a complete series set and there'll be a lot of happy campers out there!
Truly, one show that can be viewed many times over and you'll laugh every time...
Reba has been one of the most consistently funny sitcoms I have ever had the pleasure of watching!!!
Enjoy!!

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 3 Review

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would fall into the group of folks who began watching "Sunny" with the inception of the Dumpster Baby episode and, in turn, quickly got himself caught up with the first two seasons on DVD. Aside from the heaps of praise that "Sunny" has gotten since it first appeared, it's inclusion on the FX Network made it especially intriguing as (in my opinion) they house the best original television on basic cable today.
While the first 2 seasons are picture perfect in their own right, Season 3 delivers the funniest moments to date of this already amazing show. Anyone who is a fan already knows which moments these are (ie; Day Man). My personal favorite is the season finale, specifically the Mac vs. Dennis dance off, which is quite possibly the funniest moment in TV history.
Season 3 also includes the gang trying out for the Eagles, the death in Dennis and Dee's immediate family, battling a local Korean restaurant, Mac joining the mafia and a few drop-ins from the McPoyle family. What makes these scenarios so unique is that they are relatively serious at a glance but are filtered through some of most ridiculous and hilarious circumstances that even the largest hot button issue becomes comedy gold, leaving no one and nothing spared.
With one week until Season 4 begins anew, the public at large has the opportunity to get all caught up or give themselves a refresher of hilarity. I'll be enjoying multiple viewings.

The Wild Wild West - The Complete Second Season (1965) Review

The Wild Wild West - The Complete Second Season (1965)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The second season of "The Wild Wild West" looks terrific in its DVD presentation with nice, bold colors. We get all 28 episodes of the second season included in this set. With guest stars such as Victor Buno, Richard Pryor (both in the first episode "Night of the Eccentrics"), Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis, Jr. and William Windom among many others. As with the previous set the season in housed in a cardboard box with discs 1-6 facing each other in slimline DVD holders. The 7th disc is in its own holder.
This season features many episodes for which the series became famous. In "The Night of the Flying Pie Plate" Jim and Artie face lovely green skinned Venusians but quickly discover that these aliens aren't what they appear to be on the surface. "The Night of the Rave" features Dr. Loveless in a plan to shrink the entire human race--except Loveless who will now be a giant and rule humanity. "The Night of the Big Blast" features a doctor who has resurrected the dead and changed them into duplicate of Jim and Artie to kill the President. In "The Night of the Lord of Limbo" Jim must track a kidnapped Artie who appears to have been sent back in time aspart of a plan to change the outcome of the Civil War.
Sadly, it appears that Paramount put all the extras they're going to put out on the first set ofThe Wild Wild West - The Complete First Season This set comes without extras. We get some fantasy themed episodes as usual with "The Night of the Lord of Limbo" in which Jim must find Artie and is taken on a strange journey through time. "The Night of the Surreal McCoy" features Dr. Loveless' evil plan to transport murderers into his faked masterpieces and then use them to kill important people and "The Night of the Big Blast" in which duplicates are created of Artie and Jim from two dead people and sent on a mission to assassinate President Grant.
There are also plenty of episodes that focus much more on more traditional spy western adventure plots but always with an unusual twist. That's what made "The Wild Wild West" so unique; the willingness of the producers/writers to introduce a mix of different genres within the show. As usual Robert Conrad and Ross Martin are both superb in their roles. Conrad did many stunts on the show later earning special recognition from the stuntman's guild.
As with the first season the plots are vary from more conventional James Bond-like episodes to the surreal ones I've mentioned. A pity that no one was asked to provide commentary for any of these episodes. While most of the cast are deceased, we could have used a commentary by someone who studies TV and the impact of the show or, at the very least, someone who knows trivia about the show. I have no complaints for the most part however because Paramount has done a terrific job making sure these transfers look top notch and clean in their presentation here. I didn't find many of the episodes quite as dark here as some of the early black and white episodes of the first set. The Wild Wild West - The Complete First Season

James West and Artemus Gordon are two agents of President Grant who take their splendidly appointed private train through the west to fight evil. Half science fiction and half western, the Artemus designs a series of interesting gadgets for James that would make Inspector Gadget proud. A light hearted adventure series.
