Ax Men: The Complete Season 1 (Steelbook) Review

Ax Men: The Complete Season 1 (Steelbook)

Let me put it this way - my wife has been asking me if she can watch it!! The show is great, as are the DVDs. Beyond the cool machines and the near death experiences, this awesome testosterone fest manages to draw the viewers into the lives of the people in the stories. By the end of the series it is hard not to feel connected with them. Whether or not you are familiar with the industry, you will definitely be entertained by the "colorful" cast. If you are a lumberjack you'll swear you've worked with these guys, or you have worked with someone just like them. If you are not familiar with logging, this is a great introduction. It doesn't get over-technical. You will come away with an appreciation of process as well as the people involved.

Explore the past and present of the rough-and-tumble logging industry in the first ever nonfiction series about the treacherous life of Pacific Northwest timber cutters, Ax Men. For more than a hundred years, larger-than-life characters, many of whom are members of logging families that go back to the time when the West was being settled, have spent their days among towering trees and powerful machines and their nights in outposts far from the comforts of civilization. Snapped cables, runaway logs and treacherous machinery are among the many dangers that threaten their lives and safety today. Follow four logging crews through a season in the remote forests of northwest Oregon and see how, plagued by mechanical failures, relentless weather and violent and unpredictable terrain, these men risk their lives every day in a constant struggle of man versus nature.

The Twilight Zone - Season 1 (1985 - 1986) (1985) Review

The Twilight Zone - Season 1 (1985 - 1986) (1985)

As one of the writer-producers who contributed to this series, I'm posting this to correct some misapprehensions concerning the picture quality of this DVD set. This is NOT a "bad transfer." The 1985-87 Twilight Zone was shot on film, but edited on video. In other words, the raw footage was 35mm film, which was then transferred to videotape. Editing, dubbing, special effects--everything was done on video. (We were in fact the first drama series on television to do this.) So unlike the original Rod Serling TZ, there ARE no original film negatives from which Image could strike new prints for transfer. All that exist are the old one-inch master tapes, and the unfortunate reality is, videotape does deteriorate some over time. Image has, in my opinion, done a superb job packaging our series, and it is to them that I award the five stars in this review! If not for their interest in bringing this show to DVD, those one-inch masters might eventually have eroded into so much static (as my 3/4-inch tapes of the show already have). If you enjoyed this series, just be grateful it's been preserved!

Season 6 has some hilarious, unforgettable situations Frasier, family and his friends have to work through. In "The Seal Who Came To Dinner" Frasier & Niles seek approval from snob hill, only to have a dead seal ruin their chances for the Golden Apron. Niles moves to Shangri-La,...the apartment with folding bed and reach-in closet. Donny Douglas, Daphne's husband-to-be-NOT is introduced. Niles tries to break them up, but fails for the next 4 seasons. And then there's Faye,...or is it Cassandra? Frasier couldn't get it right.1.Good Grief

The Twilight Zone - Collection 1 (1959) Review

The Twilight Zone - Collection 1 (1959)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For those of us in the know, all TZ episodes have been available on DVD for quite some time, but in 40-some odd volumes that contained 3 to 4 episodes each and left you broke after about 20 volumes. Now, As I write this, we are a couple months away from being able to own the entire Twilight Zone series in a collection of 5 box sets,... Has Image Entertainment finally given TZ fans something worth emptying their pockets for? You bet.
Okay, so they still haven't put the series in chronological order. Don't wait -- this will probably never happen. It's an anthology series and there is no continuity here that absolutely demands you have the episodes in order. But what Image has done is put 9 volumes in each box set (Vols. 1-9 are contained in Collection 1) and made the cases a little more compact. These are great cases, by the way, and the box isn't just something to throw away either. The episodes in Collection 1 are among the most memorable: "To Serve Man", "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", "Time Enough At Last", "The Lonely", "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street", "The Invaders", and "It's A Good Life", to name only a few of the 35 episodes.
Quite simply, these releases (meaning not only Collection 1, but the 4 others) mean that you'll be able to own the series on DVD for [much less money than]it would cost you to buy the volumes individually...

Hong Kong Phooey - The Complete Series (1974) Review

Hong Kong Phooey - The Complete Series (1974)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For many of us, Hong Kong Phooey was the last great Hanna-Barbera cartoon character when it debuted in the fall of 1974. He was a Kung Fu crime fighting dog who never could quite go off the book. He was helped by a stripped cat named Spot. He was voiced by the immortal Scatman Crothers. The great Joe E Ross played Sgt. Flint.
Now don't get confused with the claim of 31 episodes. There were only 16 half hour long episodes. Each "episode" listed below was half the show except for the final "Cowboy" adventure that was the full 30 minutes. It'll be great to have the complete collection on the shelf in time for the 32 anniversary of Hong Kong Phooey.
The episodes will be presented in Full Frame (1.33:1) video, with an English mono audio track (with subtitles in English, French and Spanish). Here's a look at the episodes:Disc 1

Hong Kong Phooey, a somewhat inept super-hero and a master of kung fu and marital arts is always on alert for crime. He gets tip-offs from the police station where he works as Penrod "Penry" Pooch, the mild mannered janitor. Whenever Penry overhears a call for help he quickly dives into a filing cabinet and changes into his karate outfit and then hops into his Phooeymobile. Despite his fallings, and thanks to Spot, his cat, Hong Kong Phooey always manages to save the day. He is a beloved superhero to all who know him.
