Special Ops Mission Review

Special Ops Mission

This show, while not entirely realistic (even the most elite of military forces is never going to deploy a single operator on their own) definitely gives a good idea of how small units operate in the real world. You'll see realistic gun fights, tactical movement and infil / exfiltration techniques. You even get a rare peek at some of the grittier, decidedly less glamorous details of special operations (in one episode, Wil is clandestinely moving about a ship and has to pee: "I hate pissing in my wet suit, but I just did.")
Though there is only a single "good guy", the episodes stay interesting because the defending force never knows for sure how many people are going to be attacking them and behaves accordingly. The show does an excellent job of keeping you aware of the situation, with helpful maps that show where various operators are at any given time. Over the course of an episode, you get to hear from Wil and the members of the opposing force, giving an insight into how both sides are approaching their tactical problem.
Wil Willis served as both a US Army Ranger and an Air Force Pararescueman, and the show features service members from the Marine Corps, Army and Navy. Overall, a very interesting show, and I hope there will be a second season.

Each week, Special Operator Wil Willis must complete a nearly impossible 'Spec Ops' mission - all by himself! His task is to complete a complex series of military objectives, using his Army Ranger and Air Force Para-Rescue skills to survive, evade, resist and escape. In each episode, he faces a highly trained and highly motivated 'Op-For', or Opposition Force, that's determined to stop him.
